EXID member Hani’s silence is growing longer. This silence relates to a recent patient death incident at the hospital run by her fiancé, Dr. Yang Jae-woong, a specialist in mental health. While Hani is not obligated to directly respond or clarify her stance, her prolonged silence has begun to affect her colleagues in the entertainment industry.
On the 26th of last month, an incident occurred at a hospital where a famous psychiatrist, referred to as A, is the director. The incident came to light about two months after it happened. A 30-something woman, referred to as B, died after being admitted to the hospital for treatment of diet pill addiction.
It was later revealed that A was Dr. Yang Jae-woong. Yang Jae-woong expressed his profound regret through his agency, stating, “Both I and the entire medical staff are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred during the admission process. I sincerely apologize to the bereaved family who are mourning the loss of their loved one.” This apology came nearly two months after the patient’s death.
Although he promised full cooperation, including providing medical charts and CCTV footage, the apology coming only after two months and the subsequent announcement of Hani and Yang Jae-woong’s engagement in September sparked public outrage.
Hani is also under scrutiny. Given their long-term relationship and engagement, there are suspicions about whether she was unaware of the incident. Hani’s social media accounts have been inundated with critical comments, both about the wedding and Yang Jae-woong.
Due to the controversy surrounding her fiancé, Hani has faced setbacks. She had to withdraw from a variety show she was scheduled to appear on. Hani was set to appear on JTBC4’s variety show ‘Review Cut’, which was to premiere on the 12th, but decided to step down, possibly due to the impact of the Yang Jae-woong scandal. Her departure has affected not only her but also other cast members, leading the show to find a new MC and reschedule its premiere to September 2.
Up until a month ago, Hani was actively communicating through social media, but she has since remained silent. As her silence continues, public opinion worsens, and she has faced criticism without being able to celebrate her 12th debut anniversary. Reports suggest that she is also considering postponing her wedding, which is scheduled for September.
Meanwhile, Yang Jae-woong is set to face an investigation by the National Human Rights Commission.
