The girl group craze is far from over. With Teddy, the producer behind Big Bang, 2NE1, and Blackpink, leading the charge with his new group MIAO, and the buzzworthy debut team IZNA from Mnet’s “I-land 2,” along with SM’s upcoming girl group, the K-pop scene is set to stay vibrant in the latter half of the year.
While notable 4th-generation girl groups like NewJeans, Aespa, LE SSERAFIM, and IVE are dominating the charts, the emergence of these late-blooming 5th-generation newcomers is generating significant interest.
MEOVV, the first girl group from Teddy’s The Black Label, is poised to make its debut. As The Black Label has consistently hinted at new girl group launches, MEOVV is already attracting considerable attention from K-pop fans.
Scheduled for an official debut in September, MEOVV is gradually unveiling its members. Earlier in February, trainee photos of MEOVV members, including Moon Seo-yoon, the granddaughter of Shinsegae’s Lee Myung-hee, American child actress and model Ella Gross, and renowned dancer Bailey Sok, caused a stir.
However, exclusive reports from X Sports News reveal that Moon Seo-yoon’s final debut with MEOVV has been canceled.
Ella Gross, born in 2008 to a German father and a Korean-American mother, was introduced as the first member of MEOVV. Known for her close ties with BLACKPINK and her “little Jennie” moniker due to her cat-like appearance, Ella Gross has already captured public attention.
In addition to Ella Gross, new members Kwon (born in 2005) and Suin have emerged with a surprisingly mature aura. With MEOVV being Teddy’s first girl group, all eyes are on how the full lineup will take shape and what impact it will have on the music industry.
The group IZNA, formed through Mnet’s survival program “I-land 2”, is currently ramping up for their official debut. Having secured their spot through votes from viewers across 217 countries and regions last month, global fans are eagerly anticipating their debut date.
The name IZNA signifies the group’s confident belief in their limitless musical potential, embodying their readiness to take on any challenge, anywhere, and anytime.
Notably, Teddy, who has been involved in producing MEOVV, will also be working on IZNA’s debut track. Reports that Double Black Label producers have followed IZNA’s official SNS channels have further heightened expectations.
As two new girl groups compete with Teddy’s music, all eyes are on their progress. SM Entertainment has also announced that they will introduce a new girl group in the fourth quarter of this year, marking their first since Aespa four years ago, generating even more excitement in the K-pop scene.
