SM Accused of “Scamming” Fans by Changing aespa’s In-person Fansign to Video Call

On September 4, SM Entertainment published an official statement regarding a change in schedule of girl group aespa. The full statement is as below:

Hello. We would like to inform you about aespa’s live fansign event (Registration period: 2024.06.07~2024.06.09).

We would like to announce that the previously scheduled live fansign event will be replaced by a video call event due to unavoidable changes in the artist’s schedule.

We apologize for disappointing the winners who have been waiting for the live fansign event for a long time, and we hope for your understanding regarding the change in the event format.

As an in-person fansign often include various activities not available for online fancalls and include longer time, fans are absolutely enraged by the new statement, accusing SM Entertainment of basically “scamming” them. Other Korean netizens also share the same sentiments, leaving harsh comments over the company’s unprofessional move.

Below are some comments from netizens:

  • What the hell is SM doing?
  • Isn’t this basically a scam???
  • The least they should do is to extend the video call time into as long as when it’s done in person
  • Can’t they just reschedule the fansign?? Fans registered for the event so they can meet aespa in-person, not through the screen
  • They need to issue refunds to fans instead of whatever the hell is this
  • SM needs to stop scamming fans
