Korean online magazine IZM, which publishes pop music reviews, articles, and interviews with artists, has unveiled its list of 25 greatest musicians in the first 25 years of the 21st century, and BTS, BLACKPINK, BIGBANG, and IU are notable names on the list.
BIGBANG: The Rebels Who Redefined K-Pop

In their article, IZM described BIGBANG as “wasn’t just another boy group”, but instead a “revolution”. According to the magazine, they broke the mold of traditional K-pop idols, introducing a gritty, trendsetting sound that resonated with a wide audience, and depicted by adjectives such as “cool”, “swagger”, and “hip”, while their fearless experimentation with hip-hop and electronic music kept them ahead of the curve.
G-Dragon, as both an artist and producer, pushed boundaries, proving that idols could be creators as well as performers. Their influence was so profound that YG Entertainment became a powerhouse largely thanks to BIGBANG’s success. The group proved that being different isn’t being wrong it’s being legendary.
IU: The Timeless Storyteller

According to IZM, IU’s career has been nothing short of extraordinary. She started as a talented young singer but quickly grew into one of the most respected artists in Korea. Her ability to craft deeply personal and poetic lyrics set her apart, and she seamlessly transitioned from being known for her “three-step high notes” to an acclaimed actress. She never settled for fleeting success her work, from “The Red Shoes” to “Through the Night,” demonstrated an artist who valued meaningful storytelling over temporary hits. With each album, IU built a world where fans of all ages could find solace, nostalgia, and inspiration. As listeners have grown with her from “Twenty-Three” to “Palette,” her music has become a soundtrack for an entire generation’s coming of age.
BTS: The Kings Who Changed the Game

IZM said that BTS’s meteoric rise was something many saw coming, but few could have predicted just how massive their impact would be. Their 2015 MAMA performance was an early sign of their potential, leaving even veteran music critics in awe. From that moment, they skyrocketed, shattering the barriers of the Western music industry and earning the title of “The Beatles of the YouTube Era.” Their influence turned K-pop into a global phenomenon, redefining its place in music history. The group’s ability to blend powerful storytelling, emotional depth, and mesmerizing performances has solidified their status as more than just a K-pop act—they are their own genre, dubbed by fans as “BTS-pop”.
BLACKPINK: The Ultimate Girl Group

From the moment they debuted in 2016, BLACKPINK exuded confidence, charisma, and star power. Their icy-cool attitude combined with fiery passion made them a force to be reckoned with. While their image was bold and intimidating, members Rosé, Jisoo, Lisa, and Jennie showcased an endearing charm off-stage, proving that idols are truly multifaceted. Songs like “Forever Young,” “Lovesick Girls,” “Stay,” and “Playing with Fire” demonstrated their versatility, while their record-breaking YouTube views and international popularity secured their place in music history. BLACKPINK is frequently mentioned alongside legendary girl groups like The Supremes, TLC, Spice Girls, and Destiny’s Child, proving their lasting impact.
