    Fans Frustrated by YG’s Puzzling Promotion for BABYMONSTER’s “Forever”

    YG Entertainment’s puzzling promotion strategy for BABYMONSTER’s new song “Forever” has left fans unsatisfied.

    Recently, numerous BABYMONSTER fans took to social media to voice their confusion about the promotional schedule set by their management company, YG Entertainment, following the release of their single “Forever.”

    “Forever” is billed as the pre-release single for BABYMONSTER’s first full-length album, which is set to be released in September or October. However, despite its significance, the promotional schedule for “Forever” has been quite sparse.

    The song was released on July 1, but the group’s first performance is not scheduled until nearly a week later, on July 6, on the show “It’s Live.” Following that, they will perform on “Inkigayo” on July 7 and “M Countdown” on July 11.

    Many fans argue that having promotional performances for “Forever” so long after its release misses the optimal window for maximizing the song’s popularity. Additionally, accumulating points late reduces their chances of winning on weekly music shows.

    Furthermore, “Forever” is underperforming both domestically and internationally. In South Korea, the song has fallen out of the Top 100 on major music charts like Melon, Bugs, and Genie.

    On Spotify, “Forever” has also seen a significant drop compared to the previous song. “Forever” recorded only 372,319 streams on its first day, failing to make it onto the global Spotify chart, and its streams were more than halved compared to “Sheesh” (820,811 streams on the first day).

    As of July 4, “Forever” had a total of 3,623,534 streams on Spotify globally, which is more than 3 million streams fewer than “Sheesh” had in its first four days.

    Fans believe that YG’s poorly scheduled promotional activities could further diminish BABYMONSTER’s achievements.

    Girl group NewJeans has been caught up in an unexpected controversy over being labeled as a “J-Pop group”. This has led to heated debates, with many expressing disappointment

    According to Ten Asia on July 5th, NewJeans‘ Japanese debut album “Supernatural”, released on June 21st, has been classified as “J-Pop” on major music sites like Apple Music and Vibe. This classification was confirmed to be at the request of NewJeans’ agency ADOR.

    Fans have been debating the classification of the new album as J-Pop, particularly since NewJeans is considered a representative K-Pop group.

    Fans expressing disappointment point out that even though the album was released for the Japanese market, it is an original album with a high proportion of Korean lyrics. They also recall that BTS’s “Dynamite”, which has entirely English lyrics, was classified as K-Pop.

    The critics argue that even though it is a Japanese debut album, since the music is available worldwide, classifying it as J-Pop weakens the group’s identity as a K-Pop group. They suggest that it could lead to confusion among listeners who might mistakenly think NewJeans’ new songs are Japanese music. From the perspective of cultural sovereignty and enhancing the K-Pop brand, they find the decision regrettable.

    On the other hand, some believe that in the current music market, where national boundaries are blurring and genre distinctions are becoming less significant, classifying the album as J-Pop is not a major issue. They argue that NewJeans targeted the Japanese market with this album and used a localization strategy to ensure success. This means choosing the most effective strategy for export, which in this case was labeling it as J-Pop.

    NewJeans’ agency ADOR defended their decision on similar grounds. They stated, “The album was released as a Japanese record for Japanese music activities, and we chose global distribution to make it more accessible to fans. In today’s environment, where media development allows diverse distribution and rapid content dissemination, we believe distinguishing between J-Pop and K-Pop genres is meaningless.”

    However, the music industry also expressed disappointment. One industry insider said, “Considering the members, music and style, shouldn’t it be classified as K-Pop? Aside from Hanni, 4 members are Korean or of Korean descent, and the music and style often remind us of the Korean music scene of the 90s. I thought NewJeans’ music, style and music videos inherited and developed 90s K-Pop trends to fit current ones. It’s disappointing to see it labeled as J-Pop.”

    According to the author of the topic, their friend was an SM trainee for about a year from mid-2018 to late 2019, so they know a few stories about aespa members as trainees.

    In particular, this friend describes Karina as “very hard-working”, following older trainees well and taking good care of younger ones. Additionally, it was said that Karina was not too good at dancing and singing before debut, so she must have practiced really hard to reach her current skill level.

    In the video, Jennie visited Italy a day before to participate in designer Jacquemus’ “La Casa” cruise collection held on the island of Capri.

    Jennie traveled 20 minutes from the hotel to the port then took a boat for another 20 minutes to the show venue. On the boat, Jennie said, “Being surrounded by nature heals me.”

    Jennie first did a fitting. She praised the outfit, “The outfit perfectly matches my body.” She prepared thoroughly by rehearsing for the show.

    After preparing for the show, Jennie said, “I am so happy to walk the Jacquemus show. Especially since it’s the 15th year anniversary… So it’s even more meaningful and such an honor. I am so thankful towards Simon.

On top of this, in 2023, Cha Eunwoo attended the music festival Coachella on the same day BLACKPINK performed and was spotted at BLACKPINK’s afterparty, suggesting a close relationship.

    Finally, Rosé and Cha Eunwoo also shared content filmed at TeamLabs Planets Museum in Japan just a couple of days apart in April and published some photos that closely resemble each other.
